Heart's Desire Quilting Pricing

Introduction

I have developed this pricing guide to help you decide how much you want to spend on the quilting for your quilt.  Prices are lower for basic large meandering and higher for the more intricate patterns.  I also add a thread charge of $2.00 to $6.00 to each quilt that I supply thread for.  If you want to buy batting from me, you will also need to add that charge to your calculations.  You can measure your quilt and decide how much you want to spend to have a quilt you can use instead of a top sitting on a shelf!

Pricing Specifics

The backing for your quilt (4 inches larger on ALL sides) is usually constructed and supplied by the customer.

You can supply your own batting (4 inches larger on ALL sides) or purchase Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 bleached cotton from me.

I prefer to use Superior Sew Fine or the Bottom Line polyester thread.  I also carry a few 100% cotton threads.  I can order specialty thread for customers at a higher cost.  (Check links page for available colors.)

An estimate of cost will be given during the Quilt Intake Interview

Minimum charge $35.00 for any size top.

Calculating Square Inches
Measure the width and the length of your top using inches.  Measure several pages in the center of the top and use the average measurement.  The boarders of a top tend to stretch and give you a longer measurement.

Width * Length = square inches * price of quilting

Example:  76 inches * 86 inches = 6,536 square inches
6,536 square inches * $0.015 = $98.04 for a Basic Meander

Service Cost Description
Basting (for hand quilting) $0.006 PSI Large basting stitches are sewn every 6 inches horizontally and vertically on the quilt.
Basic Meander $0.015 PSI Egg sized free hand loops, hooks, and/or swirls are quilted from edge to edge in a free hand style.  (See Quilting Designs page.)
Fancy Meander $0.02 to $0.025 PSI Artistic designs which are more dense (flowers, roses, leaves, starts, feathers, hearts, flames, etc.) are quilted from edge to edge in a free hand style.  Borders may be quilted separately without turning the quilt.  (See Quilting Designs page.)
Pantograph Designs $0.015 to $0.025 PSI The quilter moves a laser light over a pattern as she guides the machine along a row of quilting.  The quilt is filled with row after row of the same pattern.  (See Quilting Designs page.)
Rotate Quilt  (for special continuous designs in the border) $10.00 added to PSI Cost Use a border quilting design in the top and bottom border, take the quilt off the machine and rotate it to quilt the side borders.
Custom Quilting $0.03 to $0.04 Outline blocks or borders by stitching in the ditch, separate block, sashing, and/or border treatments.
Heirloom Quilting $0.04 to $0.05 Tiny stippling to set off larger designs, close cross hatching, faux trapunto, Baptist fans, shells.
Thread Charge  (basic colors) $1.00 per bobbin Superior Thread - Sew Fine or the Bottom Line polyester thread.  Ask me about 100% cotton thread and variegated thread.

Help yourself keep the cost of quilting down!

Deliver a top and backing that are ironed, with no loose threads or seams, and all selvages removed.  Make sure you have squared up the top and backing so that all of the edges and corners are 90 degree angles.  The backing and batting are 4 inches larger on all sides.  Be sure they are all folded separately, very neatly, and that you have identified the head (where pillow goes) of the top and backing by pinning a piece of paper to the top corners!

What a delight!  I can get right to the quilting without fussing!
Or
I will have to charge you extra for the work!

Construct backings $20 /hour Remove selvages, calculate size, sew seams, trim, and square up backing.
Repair piecing Clip threads $20 /hour I can only quilt the top in the condition that it is brought to me.  Seams should be secure and free of puckers.  "It will quilt out" is a myth - it doesn't!  Threads left attached after piecing can become "varicose veins" and may show through the top.
Iron and squaring up the top and/or backing $20 /hour Save yourself some money and bring your top and backing nicely squared up and ironed flat.

Prices are in effect as of April 2006 and are subject to change without notice.  I reserve the right to accept or decline quilting your top.
