Quilting Environment My quilting studio is in the walkout basement of our log home located on our family farm north of Webster City, Iowa. My home has always been a smoke free environment. I will give your quilts tender, loving care with attention to details. I will design the quilting to complete your top to your Heart's Desire. I can quilt your top in whatever style you desire. It can be quilted at a lower cost to become a warm and comfy utility quilt with light overall quilting. I can also give it more time and attention (which will merit additional costs and time) to get it ready to compete for a judge's eye in a contest. Check out my pricing system to see if my services fits the needs of your budget and quilt tops. Quilting Background My name is Jennifer Bernard. I have been sewing to my "Heart's Desire" since my mother let me use her sewing machine when I was 8 years old. Her scrap basket let me create many outfits for Barbie. I enjoyed making my own clothes in high school to keep up with the fashion trends. Those mini skirts didn't use very much fabric! In college I really enjoyed sewing and designing costumes for plays at the University of Northern Iowa, the University of Illinois at Carbondale, and at Morningside College. It is totally surprising that I graduated with a teaching degree in Special Education and have taught some very dear teenagers for 22 years in Webster City, Iowa. I got the quilting bug 14 years ago in 1992 when a friend of mine taught a beginning quilting class at our church. Quilting became a wonderful, creative outlet that has led me to new knowledge, people and places! I began quilting professionally in 2006 when I felt the need to change professions. I have taken classes in the use of an APQS Millennium, stitch regulated, long-arm quilting machine. I have been improving my quilting skills by quilting tops sewn by myself, my father, and my close friends for the past year. Quilting Experience I enjoy competing in quilt shows around Iowa. I have won many awards at the Hamilton County Fair, the Iowa State Fair, and at the Iowa Quilters Guild Quilt Show (judged by certified quilt judges). I have taught quilting classes at The Gingerbread House Quilt Shop in Webster City, Iowa. I enjoy competing in quilt shows and learning what the public and show judges think of my work. Now that I have a long-arm machine and can finish the quilting easier, I plan to expand my competition activities to shows outside Iowa. Quilting Organizations Iowa Quilters Guild (State of Iowa Guild) I have served as President, Vice President, and 2 terms as Secretary. I organized the 2001 Iowa Quilters Guild judged quilt show at Webster City, Iowa. 375 quilts were judged and 1,000 people attended the show. American Quilters Society I have been a member for many years. Minnesota Quilters Guild (State of Minnesota Guild) I am a new member. International Machine Quilters Association I am a new member.
